I was diagnosed with celiac disease and Dermatitis Herpetiformis (an associated skin rash) in 1992 when celiac disease was considered to be very uncommon. Following my passion for teaching, I became a registered dietitian in order to teach the gluten-free diet and lifestyle to others. I received my Master of Science in Nutrition and Health Promotion from Simmons College in Boston, MA, completed my clinical internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and helped found the Celiac Center there in 2004 as Nutrition Coordinator and a co-investigator of celiac-related research where I work today.

I enjoy lecturing nationally and internationally and have written extensively on the nutritional management of celiac disease, including the award-winning book Real Life with Celiac Disease: Troubleshooting and Thriving Gluten Free. I am lead author and editor of the comprehensive nutrition and medical website: and an Executive Council Member of the North American Society for the Study of Celiac Disease. One of my greatest joys was founding and chairing the Healthy Villi Greater Boston Celiac/DH Support Group (now the New England Celiac Organization). I currently act as one of their Nutrition Advisors.
